Dr. Philip Musick graduated from East Tennessee State University Bill Gatton School of Pharmacy. His undergraduate research focused on the treatment of diabetes, especially in rural settings. He has over 15 years of experience in retail and mental health pharmacy. Dr. Musick is a member of the Tennessee Pharmacist Association, National Community Pharmacist Association, Tennessee Society of Independent Pharmacy, and Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society. Dr. Musick's work outside of retail pharmacy involves advocating for independent pharmacies and the role of pharmacy as part of the interprofessional healthcare team. His current professional interests include destigmatizing mental health and creating a patient-centered atmosphere in retail pharmacies. Dr. Musick's pharmacy goals are to reimagine the role of independent pharmacy in the community as the most accessible healthcare access point and to modernize retail pharmacy while maintaining its patient-oriented roots.
When Dr. Musick isn't busy managing pharmacies, he enjoys working out, listening to NFL radio, spending time with his family, working on the family farm, and making corny dad jokes.
Jenelle Vargas Musick holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Laboratory Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2010, where she received a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship for cancer research at UNC's Lineberger Cancer Center. She received her Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in Global Health from Liberty University. The subject of her master's was increasing vaccination rates in low-income populations. Dr. Vargas Musick graduated with a Doctorate of Clinical Laboratory Science from the University of Kansas Medical Center in 2024, with research focused on Rapid Whole-Genome Sequencing in NICU and PICU inpatients as well as Massive Transfusion Protocol Utilization. Professional memberships include: Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP), American Society for Microbiology (ASM), American Society for Diagnostics and Laboratory Medicine, (ADLM) and the National Drug and Alcohol Screening Association (NDASA). Most recently, Dr. Vargas Musick served as the President of the Tennessee Chapter of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) and is one of the American Society for Clinical Pathology's 2025 40 Under Forty honorees for her advocacy and role in the FDA's decision to vacate the LDT ruling.
Dr. Vargas Musick is passionate about providing laboratory services as part of a holistic approach to medicine and patient care, as well as advocating for the laboratory profession. In her free time, Dr. Vargas Musick enjoys playing soccer, watching her kids' sports games, snowboarding, and reading.
